In its continuing celebration of African American History Month, U.S. Embassy representatives Bruce Moore and Erin McCoy, as well as State Department-sponsored Senior English Language Fellow Paula Escobar, met with American Studies’ students and faculty at the International Black Sea University (IBSU). After Dr. Tamar Shioshvili, IBSU Dean of Humanities, welcomed students, Erin McCoy shared a presentation on painters of the Harlem Renaissance. IBSU Professor George Shaduri, an expert on African American poet Langston Hughes, linked Hughes’ poetry to blues and jazz. Bruce Moore shared a presentation on African American Secretaries of State, and Paula Escobar presented on notable African American women from Harriet Tubman to Michelle Obama.
