IBSU held event on African American History

The Annual African-American History Month Awareness Event at IBSU Library on March 18, Monday, was a vibrant celebration of African-American culture and history. Organized by the American Studies Students’ Union under the initiative and leadership of Art Arakelian, the event featured engaging panel discussions, intellectual trivia games, and a film screening, providing attendees with a platform for meaningful dialogue and cultural exchange.

The event commenced with an opening ceremony followed by two-panel discussions. Prof. Dr. Tamar Shioshvili, Dean of the School of Education & Humanities and head of the American Studies BA and PhD Programs, gave the presentation “Civil Rights and Colin Powell as the Manifestation of the American Dream”.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tea Chumburidze, Head of the MA Program in US Foreign Affairs, delved into the “Shared Historical Experiences of Native and African Americans”, offering unique insights and perspectives.

Highlighting the event was the keynote address by Prof. Lela Abdushelishvili, who discussed the translation of “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave”. Her expertise and insights captivated the audience, shedding light on the importance of literature in understanding the African-American experience.
