The online roundtable ‘How do we view a contemporary classroom today’ has been organized by the education director at the faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education to celebrate the International Day of Education.
The meeting was opened by the Rector of the International Black Sea University, Dr. Saffet Bayraktutan. The discussion was led by the Educational and Professional Program Coordinator at the US Embassy in Tbilisi, Head and Deputy head of Higher Education Quality Assurance Service at the National Center for Education Quality Development, Specialist of Higher Education Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, the representatives of colleges, public and private schools.
During the meeting challenges and opportunities of the education system that arose or became apparent during the pandemic were discussed. Among them, the difficulties of e-learning, such as the problem of socialization in pupils and students, social and technical problems that accompanied the new method of teaching, complicated communication between teachers and students, and more. However, new opportunities have emerged too, such as the digitization of teaching, giving teachers and students a chance to engage in a variety of courses, including courses from leading foreign universities, parents being much more actively involved in the education process, and more. Participants also shared their experiences and ideas on how we can overcome existing difficulties make a modern classroom more interesting and interactive.
“I think meetings like this are very important in terms of sharing experiences. The key is openness, conversations, and subsequently, productive collaboration with various educational institutions to find ways to address existing challenges together. The pandemic has brought many challenges but at the same time interesting changes in the field of education. I think this will somehow positively change the forms of our future work.” – Said Ekaterine Pipia, moderator of the meeting, coordinator of IBSU Education Administration MA and Education Science Ph.D. Programs
