Within the course, the students will be able to achieve a certain level of the Georgian language proficiency. You will be able to read and write in Georgian, construct simple sentences, self presentation, communicate freely in basic-level dialogues on various topics; use basic vocabulary instantly.

The Georgian language training-course will be led by Ph.D. student of Kartvelian linguistics, linguist, researcher Ms. Pikria Chanturia. As an author of numerous scholarly reports, she has been teaching Georgian language courses at various universities since 2022 and has been working on various issues of the Georgian linguistics for more than 12 years.

Course schedule:

Starting date: April 1, 2025

2 meetings per week (Mondays and Tuesdays)

Duration: 2 academic hours

Total number of meetings: 14 meetings, 7 weeks

Course Description:

Week 1

Lecture 1:

General information about the Georgian language and script.

Introduction to the Georgian alphabet.

Working on writing and pronunciation of the several consonants (specific Georgian consonants among them).

Learning basic vocabulary through group work activities.

Lecture 2:

Processing specific consonants and vowels characteristic of the Georgian language.

Performing complex tasks focused on writing and speaking.

Introduction to several lexical unites necessary for simple dialogue.

 

Week 2

Lecture 1:

Full discussion of the Georgian alphabet with the participation of the course listeners.

Activities related to listening and perceiving Georgian vocabulary.

Composing a dialogue.

“Fun games” necessary for learning the language.

Lecture 2:

Work on reading and writing.

Oral speech-pronunciation − game “Imitation”.

Learning a verb conjugation on a single verb example.

 

Week 3

Lecture 1:

Working on a composing of e  a simple clause.

Using Georgian cuisine as a tool for working on Georgian language vocabulary.

Lecture 2:

Discussion of essential grammatical units.

Work on dialogues.

 

Week 4

Lecture 1:

Using artificial intelligence to customize and define a “self-calculator” for language learners.

Work on reading and writing skills.

Lecture 2:

Working on self-presentation.

Interactive games, resource: “Georgian Folklore”.

 

Week 5

Lecture 1:

Learning the grammatical tense category.

Working on speech, activity “SPEAK Out”

Lecture 2:

Developing the skills of the listening fixation in a correct way

Fast writing, using the Timer method.

 

Week 6

Lecture 1:

Working on simple clauses, resource: “Fun syntax”

“Errors” and “standard speech” characteristic to the oral speech.

Lecture 2:

Enriching the lexical stock − “Role playing”.

Using cases of different topics

 

Week 7

Lecture 1:

Performing the necessary activity corresponding to the artificial intelligence program “Language proficiency & progress tracking”.

Working on vocabulary – playing with words, “This is interesting”.

Lecture 2:

Student presentations corresponding to the Syllabi topics. Summarizing to course.
