Georgian students participated in the 5th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics – (EJOI’2021)
The 5th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI’2021) hosted by the Romanian side was held online on August 24-28. Technical and infrastructural support for the Olympiad was provided by the International Black Sea University.
Up to 200 best students under the age of 15 from 30 European countries participated in the event. Georgia was represented at the Olympics with 8 participants, one main and one additional team.
Giorgi Mandaria, Head of the Georgian National Student’s Team, Associate Professor at the International Black Sea University: “Organizing, conducting and succeeding in such high-level educational and scientific events is a good indicator of the distribution of a global intellectual potential of different countries. It also directly indicates the level of development of computer technology in a country and its future potential, which has a direct impact on the formation of a global public opinion about the country’s image. ”
The first All-European Junior Olympiad was held in 2017 in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria with 22 participant countries. The Georgian student team, as well as all participating countries, was represented by four students at the event. All four participants won medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and Nikoloz Birkadze, a Georgian student, became the absolute champion of the first European Olympiad with a considerable advantage. The second European Olympiad was held in Russia in 2018 where the Georgian team did not participate in it due to political reasons. All four Georgian students returned with medals (1 silver, 3 bronze) from the third olympiad, which was held in 2019 in Maribor, Slovenia. In 2020, Georgia hosted the event (online). Georgian students won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
The 5th European Junior Olympiad (EJOI’2021) was hosted by Romania on August 24-28.
