Event Dedicated to the “Day of the Georgian Language” at IBSU

On April 14, International Black Sea University hosted an event dedicated to “Day of the Georgian Language”, focusing on the importance of the Georgian language and the challenges it faces in the modern era.

Within the framework of the event, students of Journalism and Georgian as a Foreign Language discussed their perspectives on the state language, based on linguistic materials they collected through observations of common mistakes in media and public signage.

Participants also attended a public lecture by Doctor of Philological Sciences Lia Karosanidze on the topic: “Barbarisms, Anglicisms, Neologisms in the Georgian Terminological Database (TermBank) and Their Management in the Modern Era.”

In addition to the invited guest, the students were congratulated on the State Language Day by the head of the Bachelor’s Program in Journalism, Professor Magda Memanishvili, a specialist in Georgian as a foreign language, Maka Parkosadze, co-authors of the syllabus of the special course in the State Language and lecturers of the International Black Sea University: Tamar Mshvidobadze, Mariam Bakuridze and Natia Putkaradze.
