Four students of the International Black Sea University took part in the Elizabeth Orbeliani translation competition

Four students of the International Black Sea University took part in the Elizabeth Orbeliani translation competition organized by the administration of the President of Georgia.

Participants of the competition are the students of various programs of the university:

  •  Lizi Beridze – American studies student, translated “Louise” by William Somerset Maugham from English into Georgian;
  • Nia Rubanova – a student of the English Philology program, translated “The Story of William Wilson” by Edgar Allan Poe from English into Georgian;
  • Rati Gharibashvili – a student of the English philology program, translated the scientific paper “The Role of Education and Research in the Learning Process of University Students”, V. Shanaida, T. Vitenko, P. Drozdiel, R. Madlenak, Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University (Ukraine), Lublin University of Technology (Poland), University of Žilina (Slovakia);
  •  Lizi Svanidze – English philology program, “Louise” by William Somerset Maugham.

The awarding ceremony of the Elisabed Orbeliani translation competition was held in the Orbeliani Palace. President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili attended the awarding ceremony. Students of the International Black Sea University participating in the competition were awarded with commemorative certificates.

The awarding ceremony was attended by the rector of the International Black Sea University, Dr. Saffet Bayraktutan; Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Social and Educational Sciences, Coordinator of American studies program Prof. Dr. Tamar Shioshvili; US Foreign Relations Master’s Program Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Tea Chumburidze; Member of the University Commission of Translation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lela Abdushelishvili and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gigi Tsiklauri.

According to the rector of the International Black Sea University, Dr. Saffet Bayraktutan, the project initiated by the president is very important in terms of encouraging translation activities among young individuals and the university is always proud of the active involvement of students in this direction.

According to the Dean of the Faculty Humanities, Social and Educational Sciences of the International Black Sea University, Prof. Dr. Tamar Shioshvili, such a competition helps to encourage the art of translation and develop translation skills among students. It is gratifying that university students enthusiastically participated in the competition and demonstrated their knowledge and skills to the best of their abilities.

The Elisabed Orbelian translation prize was established at the initiative of the President of Georgia and aims to encourage young translators and translation processes, in general.
