International Black Sea University is a legal entity under private law – a limited liability company.

International Black Sea University has been engaged in educational and scientific activities since 1995. The university is the first English-language educational institution in Georgia, which offers programs in both English and Georgian languages at all three levels of education.

The university offers a multicultural, and student-oriented learning environment. The high level of teaching is ensured by local and visiting professors from different countries; educational programs and activities are focused on developing transferable skills.

The educational process is conducted using modern teaching methods and is based on the latest technologies. In the process of development and implementation of training programs, the role of modern technologies and their impact on the employment market, as well as the need for analytical thinking, teamwork, decision-making, planning and prioritization skills are taken into account.

As a result, educational programs are focused on the demands of both – local and international employment markets.

In terms of student and staff exchange, the university cooperates with leading educational institutions of Europe, Asia and America.

IBSU offers 43 educational programs, including 25 bachelor’s, 12 master’s, 4 doctoral, teacher training educational program and educational Programme of Medical Doctor. Six refereed scientific journals are published.

The language of instruction of 26 educational programs is English.

The university has signed a memorandum of bilateral cooperation with 65 universities worldwide, including 14 universities of EU member states.

As of March 31, 2024, the university is participating in two projects funded by ERASMUS+: “Virtual Exchanges and Education On Digital Skills” (No 101111952 — VIRTUALEDU — ERASMUS-EDU-2022-VIRT-EXCH) and “Innovation Of The Structure And Content Of Education In The Field Of Economics And Management With Emphasis On Digitization, Sustainability And The Inclusion Of Migrants” (No. 2023-1-SK01-KA220-HED-000166871).

Also, IBSU actively cooperates with the U.S. Embassy within the scope of the “English Language Fellow (EL Fellow) Program.”

There have been 342 memoranda signed with corporate and public sector entities. The institution has inked 54 memoranda of cooperation and project agreements with foreign universities from various nations.

The IBSU library has three reading rooms: the main collection of 18,000 print resources on the fourth floor of the B-block, the Tamar Shioshvili reading room with 783 print books, and a smaller reading room with 492 print resources.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, about 100 public lectures, more than 20 workshops and trainings, about 40 sports competitions, 12 cultural events, and about 20 student initiatives were funded at the IBSU.

Employment, Student Life and Services

Various student clubs function in the university. University students are actively involved in social, cultural and sports activities.

Career Development Service helps students in career planning. The university has a high rate of employment of its graduates.

The International Black Sea University has a library. Electronic library databases and electronic resources are also available, providing students with continuous access to high quality educational and scientific materials.

Grant Policy

The university’s grant policy is focused on supporting successful students. It has a variety of internal funding sources. Every year, the number of students with high academic performance who are awarded state training grants, gold medals, is increasing.
