Semifinal of World Championship (ACM) and Southern Caucasus Championship in Programming between universities

In Georgian Technical University, Tbilisi, was held semifinal of World Championship (ACM ICPC North-Eastern European Regional Contest – Saint Petersburg-Barnaul-Tbilisi-Tashkent) and Southern Caucasus Championship in Programming between universities from 2 to 6 December of 2016. On semifinal of World Championship there were allowed 2 teams (They participated in Southern Caucasus Championship in parallel) and on Southern Caucasus Championship 1 team additionaly of International Black Sea University that deserved to participate in this contests according to their results in quarterfinal of World Championship (ACM)

First day there was a practice session and second day – team contest. As it was mentioned our university had 3 representative teams. First team was consisted of: Svanidze Nikoloz, Morchiladze Anri, Mamaiashvili Natia, second team was consisted of: Merabov Alexander, Tskhvediani Besiki, Khagulashvili Dachi, third team was consisted of: Gochitashvili Ilia, Odishvili Levan, miruashvili Sandro.

The first team took III diploma on semifinal of World Championship and III diploma on Southern Caucasus Championship (Team contests). Second team took honorable mention on semifinal of World Championship.

Totally there were 138 teams (414 contestants) at semifinal of World Championship (from countries: Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgizstan, Uzbekistan) and 33 teams (99 contestants) who competed at Tbilisi site (at Southern Caucasus Championship). Participants in Tbilisi at Southern Caucasus Championship were from the following countries: Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine. From Georgia there were participating the following universities: International Black Sea University, Tbilisi State University, Free University, Caucasus University, Georgian Technical University, University of Georgia, Sukhumi State University, Georgian-French University, Tbilisi SANGU, Batumi State University and Kutaisi State University. For personal contest there were allowed only 50 contestants (out of 99).

On the third day there was the personal contest in programming. A student Nikoloz Svanidze from our university have got I degree diploma on the personal contest of Southern Caucasus Championship.

I woul like to emphasize that our results was quite good.

Totally in this Olympiad students of our university have got 3 diplomas (2 on team contest and 1 on personal contest) and 1 honorable mention on team contest.

On the third day evening there was held awarding ceremony in the Georgian Technical University.

In conclusion, participating in this Olympiad was a good experience for our students (especially for one new freshman student (Dachi Khagulashvili) and for one sophomore team and also we represented our university quite well one more time.

As the Olympics organizing committee has acknowledged us repeatedly, International Black Sea University is among leading Universities in Southern Caucasus Region, according to last 10 years results.
