Ambassador Bass visited International Black Sea University, IBSU where he met with Dr. Sevcet Ercan Tunc, IBSU Rector; Dr. Giuli Alasania, Vice Rector; and other members of the IBSU administration. After meeting with the IBSU management, the Ambassador delivered remarks to IBSU students and professors, followed by a question and answer session for attendees. The event was open to press.

The U.S. Embassy has enjoyed a productive cooperation with IBSU for many years. A number of the university’s faculty members and students have successfully participated in different U.S. Government-funded academic exchange programs, such as the UGRAD and U.S. Visiting Fulbright Scholar Program.

In his remarks that the Ambassador Bass made at IBSU, he discussed the challenges of modern diplomacy, impact of globalization on a contemporary world and an importance of fast developing technology and social media. Q& A session included questions on Georgia’s integration in NATO, regional geopolitics and prospects of conflict resolution, role of superpowers and the way it shapes modern politics. At the end, to answer one of the students’ questions regarding the best advice for a successful career, Ambassador Bass emphasized the importance of a good motivation and dedication to a job. He noted that an ability to share worthwhile ideas, a credit for a good work or a new initiative is also a prerequisite to success.
